Problem: Problematic workstations creating
severe downtime and frustration for the users.
Solution: Create Corporate standard for each workstation
including software versions/configurations and hardware upgrades.
Implement corporate standard on each workstation. Identified and
solved problems which affected all workstations as well as isolated
problems with individual workstations.
Result: Workstations stabilized with no reoccurring problems
and improved performance of each workstation. Client frustration
level reduced to an eagerness to work at their workstation.
130 User Macintosh Shop
Problem: Users stored files locally due
to severe Network congestion and mis-configured switches and servers.
Solution: Re-wired switches, updated servers, and reconfigured
network topography. Updated networking software on each workstation.
Results: Network speed increased 25% and data transfers became
100% reliable. Users' confidence increased to the level of their
willingness to store files on the servers and not locally on their
machines.
Continuing Education Firm
Problem: Customer satisfaction problems
due to computer systems double charging customers for their registrations.
Solution: Implemented a custom File Maker Pro solution charged
clients automatically and filtered out duplicates. Implemented E-Commerce
solution which performed the same task as the in house solution.
Results: 0 duplications in over 40,000 registrations. Accurate
and detailed reports were generated which gave the client more information
on their clients and spending patterns.
Insurance Company
Problem: Client had four different offices
in the cities of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto with a
4th Dimension database server in each office. Company data was not
synchronized because data was updated from each office daily via
courier on Zip disks. Each office had no real-time access to corporate
data across the enterprise. Telecommunication costs were exorbitant
between the offices.
Solution: Designed a complete national Frame Relay Network
between the offices. Coordinated a team of network engineers to
assist in the installation and implementation of a successful wide
area network. To reduce telecommunication costs, installed VoIP
(Voice over IP) solution to wide area network
Results: Users were able to access each 4D Server in each
office on a real-time basis, increasing productively. Also implemented
voice over IP so that each office could use the data network to
make calls to each office. The client was extremely satisfied and
saved many thousands of dollars.
High Technology Corporation
Problem: Users were very frustrated with
computers because they would frequently crash. Transferring data
over the network was very slow. Corporate E-mail servers were not
reliable and extremely data was lost due to the instability.
Solution: Standardize software and upgraded workstations
to solve crashing problems. Re-designed network infrastructure to
solve data transfer. Upgraded and optimized E-mail servers to ensure
reliability. IT Manager decided to change platform from Macintosh
to PC. Migrated various applications and file formats from NetWare
to Windows NT.
Results: Users had very reliable computer systems after each
workstation was optimized. Successfully migrated 200 Macs to Windows
NT workstations.
